It’s no secret that OpenAI is working on an AI-powered search enginebut according to a new report the company seems intent on launching it on the eve of Google I/O 2024trying to steal the show at Google’s annual event.

We remind you that it is scheduled for Tuesday 14 May, and traditionally represents the stage for the biggest innovations of the year in the software sector, and not only, for the Mountain View giant. Coincidentally, artificial intelligence and integration into the main services, including search, will be one of the main focuses of this event according to the most recent rumors.

However, as initially anticipated, Google may have to face the challenge of one of its major rivals in the field of AI. Reuters reports that OpenAI is planning to launch its own search engine based on artificial intelligence, direct competitor of Google Search, the day before, i.e. Monday 13 May.

Naturally, these are only rumors and OpenAI has not officially confirmed the date, but this announcement comes after rumors that have circulated in recent weeks regarding the imminent arrival of the product.

Bloomberg had anticipated that OpenAI’s search engine would be designed to compete with Google by allowing users to ask questions via ChatGPT. But it wasn’t the only source, as the address search.chatgpt.com also recently started showing signs of activity, hinting at OpenAI’s intentions.

It should be remembered that at present there is already a search functionality, but technically it is only available to ChatGPT Plus users, i.e. those who pay for the paid service. OpenAI’s move is set to shake up the online search landscape, and it will be interesting to see how Google reacts to the challenge and how the competition in the field of artificial intelligence applied to information search evolves.

But OpenAI is moving on multiple fronts, such as video generation with artificial intelligence. Among the most interesting tools, in fact, is Sora, who recently supported the first music video entirely created by AI starting from textual prompts. Only 55 were needed, but the result is decidedly interesting.

We remember that OpenAI showed Sora at the beginning of 2024, surprising everyone with the first videos up to 1 minute long. We had already seen similar things thanks to other LLMs, but with shorter duration (a few seconds) and many more graphic inaccuracies.
