A meeting in Portonovo to illustrate the Controlled Access provision and the work for the G7 Health

Meeting this morning in the municipal residence dedicated to Portonovo, close to the opening of the new bathing season.

Around the table with the operators of Portonovo, present in full, the Mobility Offices, Public Works, the top management of the Conero Park, Conerobus and Ancona Servizi and with the PUMS (Urban Mobility Plan) designers.

The operators of Portonovo – who had previously been subjected to a questionnaire regarding numbers, needs and critical issues – were illustrated with the proposal for the new Controlled Access Zone (ZAC) in Portonovo, the first objective of which is to regulate access of vehicles to the Bay, trying to deal with the critical issues related to parking congestion and passive traffic along the access road.

A problem shared by citizens and the operators themselves and which will be addressed, from this 2024 season, with an experimental approach, through the application of controlled access on the 52 critical days identified in the calendar shared with the operators. On these days, in the time slot 8:00-19:00, access to the public car parks in the valley will be allowed until they are full. Access to private facilities will be guaranteed exclusively to categories of operators and seasonal tourists, who have guaranteed parking in private facilities.

On the dates marked in red it will be possible to access using the shuttle service (Conerobus) already enhanced in the high and very high season periods, adjacent between the upstream car park and the “Pieri” car park, in which the number of parking spaces available in past (over 400).

The answers to the questionnaires given to the operators also made it possible to delineate more precisely the types of users of the Bay – operators, suppliers, seasonal – weekly – daily – occasional tourists – as well as residents and residents. Compliance with the ZAC on critical days for those heading to public car parks will be guaranteed between the gate located upstream by a Local Police patrol and an operator from Ancona Servizi who is constantly in contact with the “downstream” operators so as to be able to verify the parking situation in the downstream car parks in real time.

The 2024 test – it was underlined by the Mobility councilor – is a preparatory test for a substantial change in access to the delicate ecosystem of Portonovo, which involves the development of a specific database with which to record the data relating to the PLATES of regular users of the bay, which the operators themselves will provide.

Over the next 3 years, after evaluating the outcome of the summer 2024 trial, the most appropriate, effective and economically sustainable technologies to regulate traffic in the Bay will be examined.

The new tool – which will be built – will combine environmental sustainability with hospitality, systematizing resources and collaboration between the public (Municipality, Conero Park, service companies) and the private sector, allowing us to start quantifying the number of vehicles that actually pass through .

The Conerobus company has made itself available to study ‘customised’ solutions both for the staff who go to work in the Bay every day and for large-scale events.

The resolution and related ordinance to regulate the new access method to Portonovo will be ready by May.

On the Public Works side, the Portonovo operators were illustrated with the project for the extraordinary maintenance works in view of the G7 Health for the Torre and Lago Grande car parks and the safety of the Portonovo road which connects the roundabout upstream with the square of the bay.

The milling and asphalting works on the road and the installation of material and finishes in the car parks will be carried out largely at night, starting from mid-May, so as not to interfere with the use of the beaches and the accommodation and seaside facilities.
