What is the will of the municipal administration regarding both the timing for the conclusion of the first part of the renovation work on the southern seafront and what concerns the felling of the row of tamarisk trees. These are the issues that are posed to the mayor Valerio Vesprini with a question signed by all the minority councilors. In fact, it is not clear what the administration’s intention is on these issues and we are navigating in the most absolute indeterminacy while waiting for see how it will end. With the question, the minority councilors attempt to open a dialogue with the majority to make them withdraw, if possible, from the possible decision to put the chainsaws into action. With regard to tamarisks, the minority councilors, after having stated that environmentalists have recently presented a balanced solution hypothesis and that the final project envisaged the transplanting of tamarisks considered healthy while the one currently being implemented envisages their total culling with the question they ask the mayor: “if it is possible to discuss the environmentalists’ project within the competent Council Commission; otherwise and denial, it is intended to know, for the purposes of maximum transparency and for traffic, clarity of the administrative action and for the purposes of the legitimate exercise of our institutional duties, what is the final decision regarding the destination of the current row of tamarisks and the underlying parking area! Lastly, what is the expected date for the planned felling of those plants? As regards the The proposed solution proposed by environmentalists consists in leaving the row of tamarisk trees in its place, where it has been for more than 50 years, and planting a row of saplings in the location created for this purpose to the east of that of the tamarisk trees themselves. In this way a space would be formed between the two rows, a service and tourist-recreational lane dedicated to the loading-unloading of small goods. This is to the east of the current row while to the west a single row of car parks can be created, creating more space for sidewalks and traffic. It is clear that the last word also for the fate of the tamarisks lies with the mayor who is aware that whatever it may be he will be able to count on the unconditional support of a faithful majority such as the well-deserving ones.
