Etna unions not invited to a meeting on safety and deaths at work: “We are saddened”

“Deaths in the workplace are first of all personal and family tragedies. But as social events they concern us all. On the occasion of the World Day for Safety at Work, the ASP of Catania organized a meeting with the city schools; a event certainly designed for young people, but which included many institutional greetings and even moments of entertainment. The major absentees of the initiative were the trade unions, who were never invited”.

This was stated in a joint note by the three general secretaries of CGIL, CISL and UIL of Catania Carmelo De Caudo, Maurizio Attanasio, Enza Meli, who asked the top management of the healthcare company “how the role of those who represent those very workers can be ignored, and therefore the true victims of a general disaster which we all witness with pain and anger, and whose responsible parties are many, institutions first and foremost?”.

“The ASP forgets that CGIL, CISL and UIL concretely every day and for over a century – add the three trade unionists – work for the protection of workers’ rights as provided for by the Constitution. Ignoring the trade union acronyms also means contributing territorially to that climate dear to the current national government which aims to eliminate and humiliate critical voices, even if they are constructive. We declare ourselves saddened and hope that in the future the opportunities for meetings, both institutional and informative, will aim for the common good and respect for roles”.
