Ballon d’Or 2024 – Dennis Scapinello: “A double wouldn’t be bad… Everyone deserves to win”

He is a regular at our Ballon d’Or, at which he presents himself for the third consecutive season, always wearing the Solbiatese shirt. After the ten goals in the championship last year, which culminated in the victory of our award, Dennis Scapinello he reconfirmed and exceeded those numbers, winning the title of his team’s best scorer, despite an injury that kept him away from the pitch for a couple of months. While waiting to play the Italian National Cup final which could give the team a direct ticket to Serie D, thestriker born in 1995with the captain’s armband on his arm, now embodies the soul of a club that is writing important pages of Nerazzurri history around him.

Dennis, how was the season?
“It was a season of two sides. As regards the Italian Cup, we have reached a historic milestone for the club and also for all of us, because we will go to play a national final in Florence, which is not something that happens every year. In the championship, however, we have some regrets about that sixth place which excluded us from the playoffs. In hindsight we missed a few games, but after all the Cup took energy away from us. From a personal point of view, this season I had some physical problems and was out of action due to the operation, but all in all I can’t complain because I scored seventeen goals and eleven assists, hoping to finish with something more.”

Who would you give the Golden Ball to?
“Good question… Giangaspero is a player I had never seen and he really impressed me, in addition to the fact that he has exceeded twenty goals. I know Gabrielli very well, he won the championship and also scored a few goals. Cazzaniga has confirmed himself as a winger who can make the difference. Pedrocchi has very little to do with these categories and personally I like to see him play. It’s difficult to choose just one, but for quality I would say Pedrocchi.”

What was your best match?
“With Saronno in the first leg, because I scored a double and it was a tough match at the start of the championship. In terms of personal gratification, I would also say the Cup away match with Atletico BMG, also in that case with a brace.”

Who is your Idol?
“There are many players who inspire me, mostly short attacking midfielders who play the ball on the ground. Currently, perhaps, what I like most is Dybala.”

If you won, who would you dedicate this award to?
“It wouldn’t be bad to do a double (laughs, ed.). In this case, I would dedicate it first of all to my family and my girlfriend, then obviously to the team, because football is played with eleven players and without them I rightly wouldn’t have been able to do anything, and to the entire Solbiatese club, given that it is now the my fourth year here and we are doing something important.”
