Among the news from the NAB relating to Blackmagic there are not only those of the new products: we must also remember the significant price reduction on the entire line of Video Assist portable monitor recorders…

Let’s say straight away that the reduction we are referring to is the same for all models, around 200 dollars: a sum sufficient to make the products more attractive.

The entry level Video Assist 5 3G (in the photo together with the 7 3G), with 5″ screen and 300 nits, now costs 295.00 Euros + VAT: it has 3G SDI video input (mini BNC with loop) and HDMI (up to Full HD at 60fps), and allows you to record on SD cards with ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422, ProRes 422 LT, ProRes 422 Proxy, DNxHD 220x, DNxHD 145, DNxHD 45, DNxHD 220x MXF, DNxHD 145 MXF, DNxHD 45 MXF codecs. An entry level model, however full of advanced functions, such as VU meter, histogram, focus assist, tally and integrated 3D LUT.

Going up a level, we find the Video Assist 7 3Gfrom 515.00 Euros, which has a 7″ monitor, a second SDXC UHS I slot, LanC port, Tally, standard BNC connectors and mini XLR analog audio inputs.

Black magic Video Assist 5” 12G HDR, however, as the acronym suggests, it has a panel with very high brightness, 2500 nits, and supports and records signals up to 4K at 60fps. The memory slot is more advanced, SDXC UHS II, and also allows you to store in Blackmagic RAW, up to 3:1 or Q0.

The unit is compatible for RAW recording with cameras from Fujifilm, Leica, Nikon, Panasonic, Sigma and Z Cam, and is equipped with a USB-C port with UVC protocol and webcam emulation; therefore it is possible to use it as an encoder for live streaming, both with OBS and with various communication programs, such as Zoom, Skype, Meet, Teams, etc.

Finally, the top of the range, offered at 725.00 Euros + VAT: it is the Blackmagic Video Assist 7” 12G HDRwhich incorporates the best features of the various models, therefore two SDXC UHS II slots, 4K recording at 60fps, LanC port, XLR audio inputs with Phantom +48V, IN/OUT SDI 12G BNC standard, 2500 nit panel, USB-C with UVC protocol, Blackmagic RAW and so on…
