The coordinator of the UIL of Taranto, Pietro Palliniand the general secretary of Transport of the UIL, Carmelo Sassowith a letter addressed to the Prefect of Taranto, doctor Paola Dessìask for an urgent meeting for the establishment of an institutional control room aimed at resolving the labor dispute of the EX ISOLAVERDE.

98 workersbetween workers and employees, included in various projects of the Municipality of Taranto through the subsidiary “INFRATARAS”, they seriously risk unemployment as the “Green Passage” project has expired.

“Although the activities carried out by these workers – write Pallini and Sasso – were managed by an in-house company with the Municipality of Taranto behind a well-defined two-year project financed by the Puglia Region, nothing was done to refinance the project and save the 98 families”l

“It hardly needs to be underlined – they write from UIL – the importance of the activities carried out by these workers include those pertaining to environmental hygiene, greenery maintenance, small maintenance and environmental reclamation. The latter is a very important topic and definitely at the center of public opinion, which is also discussed in the various institutional and debate tables in our territory and in the entire country”.

It’s still: “Despite everything and, with the premise that Taranto has, despite us, the sad record of workers who no longer have a job and that for the luckiest the struggle has become that of being able to maintain the social safety net that allows thousands of these families to barely survive; we are firmly convinced of the possibility of a redemption of our territory and workers”.

“All of this is putting a huge strain on us – continue Pallini and Sasso – the maintenance of social peace in Taranto, with very real risks of social tensions. Starting from the huge resources of the PNRR combined with those that the Just Transition Fund has provided for Taranto, we are firmly convinced that this can, first of all, certainly represent a very valid tool to give a future to these workers”.

And they conclude: “We ask His Excellency the Prefect to be able to convene all the interested parties, so that, behind an institutional control room, we tend to avoid the specter of dismissals without any possibility of re-employing the workers. The UIL Confederation and its Transport Federation ask for an urgent convening table in order to be able to find the solution necessary to guarantee the maintenance of employment levels and the continuation of the activities that these workers performed also and above all in the interest of our territory and of our community.”
