There air component of the National Corps of Fire fighters turns 70 this year, dedicated from the beginning to rescue from above: from the first flights in 1954 with the Bell 47 G helicopters, up to those of today, with the modern Leonardo AW139. To celebrate this anniversary, the photographic book was presented today at the Turin International Book Fair “The Flight of the Dragons. The aerial component of the Fire Brigade in a story through images”, created with the precious shots of the international photographer Massimo Sestini, thanks to the contribution of Leonardo SPA and ENI.

The inauguration of the International Book Fair opened with the presence of Undersecretary Prisco, the Head of Department Franceschelli and the Head of the national corps Dall’Oppio at the stand of the Fire Brigade, who welcomed the Minister of Culture Sangiuliano to whom it was donated preview of the new photography book.

The undersecretary Priscus defined the volume a masterpiece “which certainly tells about the means, but which celebrates the men who use these means in most cases in emergencies. What emerges from Massimo Sestini’s shots describes the passion, heart and pride of an increasingly important component in every type of operational scenario.”

The word then passed to the head of the department Franceschelli who highlighted that: “celebrating an important anniversary with a book of this type is intended as a tribute to the people who are part of the Fire Brigade’s aerial fleet. We can define the work done by Massimo Sestini as excellent team work which enhances both the vehicles and the crew members”.

Following the speech of the head of the Corps From Opium: “the theme of this year’s edition is “imaginary life” which, as Natalia Ginsburg claimed, is what moves creative life, a bridge with the real one. The Fire Brigade is present in both areas; in the first they are told through stories and images, in the second the National Corps is deeply involved through the activities that are carried out daily. The photographic book that is presented today, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the aerial component, is a skilful mix of creative and real life”.
