73′ GOAL CANCELED AT REAL MADRID – A few minutes after Alphonso Davies’ goal, Real found an immediate equalizer thanks to an own goal from De Ligt. Marciniak, however, was called to VAR for an On Field Review and disallowed the goal due to a foul by Nacho who, in an attempt to take a position in the center of the area, literally put his hands on Kimmich’s face. Correct decision by the race director.
91′ REAL GOAL: OFFSIDE, OR NOT – Rudiger, unmarked in the area, unleashes a tense cross which Joselu repeats into the net from a few steps away. Upon a signal from the linesman, Marciniak disallows the goal due to an irregular position by the German defender. VAR, however, refutes the assistant: Rudiger is in play and the goal that gives Real Madrid qualification is legal.
103′ – BAYERN MUNICH FURIOUS – In the 13th minute of injury time, on a long throw from the back, the linesman raises his flag, probably signaling De Ligt’s offside. The action continues and the same Dutch defender scores with a low shot with a right foot but by then the game had been stopped for a couple of seconds and the Real Madrid defenders seemed to have stopped. The decision of Marciniak’s assistant remains incomprehensible as De Ligt’s irregular position, if any, was truly millimetric. In any case, VAR could not intervene because before De Ligt kicked on goal, the referee’s whistle was heard quite clearly.
