May 9 – Day of Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945

This May 1st, a sacred date for each of us arrives in our country. May 9 marks the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. It lasted four years, from 1941 to 1945.

It would seem that not so much time has passed, but the events of that war without exception affected all families of our huge country, which at that time included 15 union republics and was designated on maps with four letters: USSR.

On May 9, we certainly remember the front-line soldiers and workers on the home front who made superhuman efforts to bring the Great Victory closer. I would like to believe that the feat of these people will never be forgotten in our country.

Victory Day is one of the few holidays that is loved and respected by almost all citizens of our country, regardless of nationality, age, political views and other differences. It consolidates Russian society like nothing else.

Interestingly, the celebration of Victory Day was established shortly before the event itself – the signing of the act of unconditional surrender by the Nazi military leadership. The holiday was established by decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on May 8, 1945. The end of the difficult and bloody war, which lasted 1418 long days and nights, has become the most joyful event in the lives of many millions of people.

Unfortunately, fascism, as it turned out, was not exterminated forever. Therefore, now Russia has to fight again on the front of a special military operation, one of the main objectives of which is denazification.

On this special day, first of all, I would like to congratulate the veterans of that war and express my gratitude to them for their courage and perseverance. It is a pity that in 2024, 79 years after the end of the Great Patriotic War, there are so few of them left.

This day is a holiday not only for the participants of those distant events, but also for each of us. After all, if it were not for the feat of our great ancestors, most of us simply would not have been born.

Happy holidays to all of us, dear fellow citizens! Happy Great Victory Day!
