Ballon d’Or 2024 – Jordan Pedrocchi: “In love with football thanks to Zidane and Pirlo. Dedication to the mother who is no longer here”

TO Magenta, for three years now, has found an ideal environment in which to express a considerable propensity for goals. With ten goals under his belt, the captain Jordan Pedrocchi he is the leader on and off the pitch of a group that has never detached itself from the top levels of the rankings. His career speaks for itself: over three hundred appearances totaled so far, including some experience in Serie C, first at Chieti and then at Lecco, after the D championship victory, as well as three UEFA Cup call-ups for Milan in Ancelotti, at the time of the Rossoneri Spring. In just under a week, in the yellow and blue jersey, the midfielder born in 1991 will embark on the adventure of the playoffs, a deserved extension of a year full of emotions, which could echo the success in the Promotion in the 2021/22 season.

Jordan, how did the season go?
“It was a positively unexpected season, in the sense that we knew that the director had built a good squad, but we honestly didn’t think we’d get this high. It’s fair to say there’s also a hint of regret for that month gone wrong; without wanting to look for excuses, it was difficult to have to do without four or five key players at the same time. Despite this, as a team we did something important and now we have to try to do the best we can in the playoffs, because the dream is alive and we don’t want to stop. Even from a personal point of view it was an amazing season, especially in the initial and central phase, in which I scored almost every Sunday. It’s true that in the second half of the season I had less impact in terms of scoring, but I still managed to make several assists for my teammates, which honestly makes me even more pleased than the goals. I believe that it is perhaps one of the best seasons of my career and I owe this above all to the coach, who put me in a position to express myself at my best, and to my teammates. Then I should rightly have some credit too (laughs, ed.)

Who would you give the Golden Ball to?
“A player who in my opinion made the difference with his team was Franchini from Oltrepò. Remaining among the candidates, I think they all deserve it: Cazzaniga did very well, Gabrielli won the championship, Pedrocchi should win it just for his career (laughs, ed.) and I don’t say Giangaspero just because he is a great friend of mine. As a football esthete that I am, I choose Scapinello.”

What was your best match?
“There were probably two, with Accademia Pavese and Ardor Lazzate in the first leg, in which I scored two braces, deciding at the last minute”.

Who is your Idol?
“I have always had two: Zidane and Pirlo, who literally made me fall in love with football”.

If you won, who would you dedicate this award to?
“To my mother, who unfortunately I lost three years ago to breast cancer, and to my wife”.
