Raymond Chan died at the age of 56 at his home in Wales: highly experienced art director, he worked for years for Marvel Studios. The same study confirmed the news:
The entire Marvel Studios team is incredibly saddened by the death this week of longtime Marvel filmmaker and friend Ray Chan.
Ray was an incredible production designer who helped imagine and design the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From Xandar to the Sanctum Sanctorum, Ray has brought unique and inhabited worlds to the screen, from the farthest reaches of space to a fishing boat in Louisiana. He was also a great friend and colleague and will be missed by all who had the privilege of working with him.
“Ray was first and foremost a friend to everyone at Marvel Studios. He was a talented collaborator who brought creativity and attention to detail to every shot of every film he worked on, and who was able to bring out the best in every department he worked in,” comment Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito. “He was the kindest human being and it was a great pleasure to work with him, very generous, and the kind of people who take the germ of an idea and turn it into something beautiful. We are shocked by his death. He will be missed by everyone at Marvel and we express our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Ray joined Marvel Studios as Supervising Art Director on Thor: The Dark World, a role he also held on many other Marvel films such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame . He was also Art Director on Spider-Man: Far From Home and production designer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (the additional footage) and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine.
He leaves behind his wife Lindsay and sons Caspar and Sebastian.

There are no suitable words to talk about this loss. We have lost an incomparable reserve of talent, grit and skill. As a production designer, he was a very important creative force on the set of Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as the writers, director and actors. I don’t pretend to know every aspect of Ray, but I know that it is not easy to find someone with this level of skill capable of leaving his mark on the world also due to his indelible humanity. He built entire worlds from scratch – and did so in a collaborative and inclusive way. Ray was peerless. And it was nice to be around him. He will be missed by everyone, but in particular by the people who lived in his most important world: his family.
The last time I saw him was exactly two weeks ago. One of the last things I told him was that he could do magic and that there was no one on earth like him. Usually, we teased each other amiably. So… of all the last words you could say to someone you adore, here’s a little consolation.
