Porsche 911 hybrid: the debut is almost here

A HISTORICAL MOMENT – There are still a few days left to discover all the detailed specifications of the premiere Porsche 911 hybrid. The German company has in fact announced that the car will be revealed on May 28th as part of the presentation of the restyling of the current generation of 911 (it will be called 992.2). This is an epochal turning point in the history of the 911, which in its 61-year history has built a great reputation in terms of dynamic performance.

LOTS OF TESTS – In order not to lose the DNA of the 911, Porsche has planned a intense testing program which took place in urban traffic, on extra-urban roads and of course on the track. There was clearly no shortage of tests carried out in colder climates and scorching heat, as in the case of the final testing phases in Dubai.

IT GOES STRONG – In the setup on the Nordschleife of Nürburgring, which has always been of particular importance during the development of the 911, the Teutonic sports car completed the lap of the circuit in 7 minutes 16 seconds and .934 tenths, which is 8.7 seconds less than the corresponding version of the previous model. The test car was fitted with standard road tires and the aerodynamic kit and was equipped with therear wing fixed, now supplied as an option for several model generations (guarantees greater downforce at high speeds).

READY FOR PRODUCTION – After five million kilometers of development driving, Porsche’s research and development team has declared the preparatory tests completedstart of production in series of the 911 hybrid. Porsche brand ambassador and test driver, Jörg Bergmeister, assures that the new 911 is faster on the track, with greater grip, higher power and better acceleration.

ELECTRIC IN THE GEARBOX – According to rumors, the 911’s hybrid powertrain is not plug-in but uses a unprecedented six cylinder combined with a motor/generator located inside the dual clutch gearbox. This would also allow us to reduce the weight, which should only increase by a few tens of kilograms.
