The latest Windows 11 update, identified with the code KB5036893, released in April, introduced a series of theoretical improvements to the operating system. However, it also caused serious inconveniences, interrupting the functioning of numerous VPN applications which rely on certificates managed via TPM (Trusted Platform Module). This has caused a series of difficulties for users who rely on these networks for security and privacy.
The specific problem encountered by users is linked to the VPN’s inability to locate the certificate necessary for use with the Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP). Since VPNs are essential tools for secure browsing and accessing remote corporate resources, this malfunction is not just an inconvenience, but a serious obstacle to user productivity and safety.
Microsoft quickly acknowledged the problem and said it was working to find a solution. In the meantime, however, affected users have an immediate option to mitigate the problem: uninstall the problematic update and go back to the previous version of Windows 11.
