Mobile telephony has had an explosion of interest. In particular, Nokia telephone company was the master, a company that deals with electronics based in Esloo, Finland.
But why did all this happen?
Because Nokia had offered one of the most cutting-edge mobile phones of that time on the market. Something shocking, bordering on the sensational, capable of arousing interest in the new generations, but also in adults, who have slowly begun to approach smartphones.
Nokia has presented multiple models, but the one with the most undisputed fame is the Nokia 3310. Released in 2000, it was an icon of the world of mobile telephony, appreciated for its simplicity, resistance and long battery life. It had the shape of a bar, very classic for the period, slightly rounded on the corners, different from the rectangular telephones and with external antennas common for that era. The sturdy plastic structure was famous for its resistance to drops and impacts, accompanied by a type of physical rubber keyboard, comfortable and precise for typing. The colors of the screen always remained grey, therefore monochromatic.
As for the functions, they were quite basic: it was possible to call and send SMS, it was equipped with a telephone book, an alarm clock, a calculator and pre-installed games, such as Snake, the snake game, which has become a must. At the time, mobile internet was not yet widespread and cameras on cell phones were still a rarity in the early 2000s. But a major innovation was the ringtone, being able to set ringtones with multiple tones and melodies.
A legend, inimitable to this day, is the battery of the Nokia 3310, which could last days, or even weeks, on a single charge.
It was the phone for everyone, not only for its ease of use, but also for its rather low cost.
But today, what happened to the 3310?
The original Nokia 3310 model was no longer produced. But in 2017, a revisitation was launched by HMD Global, with a design similar to the original, but with some modern features such as a color screen, camera and MP3 player. This new version was marketed in Italy and is easy to find in the main electronics and telephone stores, or even online, still being able to count on absolutely low prices within everyone’s reach.
How much does a new Nokia 3310 cost and how much is an old one worth?
The cost of a new Nokia 3310 does not exceed €100. The idea was precisely to encourage the purchase of this new model, keeping in mind the accessibility to which the old model was linked. In Finland, even cell phones designed in this way did not exceed €89.
But if you are looking for a vintage Nokia 3310, the matter in this case becomes more interesting. Collectors know that the more well an object intended for collection has been cared for, the more value it acquires. For this reason, it is essential to look for a Nokia 3310 that has not undergone major alterations over time, so that signs of wear are not extremely visible. And another important condition is to understand if the mobile phone in question is still working and equipped with all accessories. The price, taking all these aspects into account, can go beyond €500. If then the Nokia 3310 that we find ourselves in front of belongs to one limited editionthe cost can even exceed a thousand euros.
