The ChatGPT search engine will see the light on May 13th

There were already rumors that an OpenAI search engine based on ChatGPT was about to launch. According to Reuters, the day of the epiphany will be May 13th. This was revealed by two sources familiar with the matter.

May 13 is the day before the start of Google I/O, an event during which Google should present a series of products related to Artificial Intelligence.

It goes without saying that if you want to have space in the search engine sector, the giant to challenge is Google itself; and the possible presentation of search.chatgpt.com – or whatever the commercial name used by OpenAI will be – the day before Google I/O is a clear manifestation of intent.

The ChatGPT search engine is pretty much ready and is the biggest threat Google has ever faced

According to the rumors gathered so far, especially by Bloomberg, the OpenAI search engine will be an extension of ChatGPT that will allow collect information from the web and include link citations in search results, most likely represented in a discursive form; as already happens with Microsoft’s Copilot and Perplexity, a highly regarded startup valued at around $1 billion which, according to its statements, has 10 million active monthly users.

In March, ChatGPT recorded approximately 1.75 billion global visits (a figure different from the number of actually active users), but these also represent those made by users who use the free version of ChatGPT.

ChatGPT Plus subscription also allows access to the Internet and browsing with the “Browse with Bing” option and the GPT-4 model. In this way ChatGPT can use Bing in “headless” mode, that is, exploit the search engine without a UI attributable to Bing to offer more up-to-date answers, but without a clear separation of the links to which the results refer.

It is not yet possible to know which commercial model OpenAI will use for its official search engine, that is, whether it will tie it in some way to a form of subscription or whether it will obtain revenues from advertising formulas.
