Online scams against Italian citizens continue. This time, as the Revenue Agency explains, it is a text message which, under the pretext of a tax refund, asks the victim to click on a link and enter their personal data. The aim, we read on the Agency’s website, is to attract the attention of the unfortunate person by looking for a contact from which to subsequently establish a fraudulent action.
How to recognize the scam
This type of false communications is called “Smishing” or phishing operations (an Internet scam) via SMS. What to do and how to defend yourself
According to the Revenue Agency, the behavior to adopt when receiving a communication of this type or similar is as follows: do not click on the links present, do not provide access credentials, personal data and bank details during any related telephone calls to this type of phenomenon and to absolutely never contact the sender of any communications. In case of doubts about the veracity of a communication received from the Agency, it is always preferable to verify beforehand by consulting the “Focus on phishing” page, contact the contacts available on the institutional portal or directly to the territorially competent office.
