“I’m not sure what I said though.”

Leclerc protagonist of a nice little scene with his garage after the Emilia-Romagna GP. And one phrase in particular won over Italian fans.

Charles Leclerc he arrived at third place at the Imola GP, a result that allowed him to get on the podium, even if not on the top step as he would have hoped. The Monegasque driver also thanked the fans during the team radio at the end of the race, but the correct one conjugation of the subjunctive remains a difficult obstacle to overcome, and has given rise to one nice gaffe after the end of the race.

Leclerc and the greeting to the fans after the Emilia-Romagna GP

After passing the checkered flag, Bryan Bozzi, Leclerc’s new track engineer, invited the Monegasque driver to park the car in the space reserved for third place, and to remember to greet the fans. Leclerc’s response was ready, underlining how “They’re always here. How nice!”. The Ferrari driver, however, then tried to launch himself into the formulation of a sentence in Italian using the subjunctive, without however having too much success. “It would have been even nicer though if we won Leclerc said on the radio, realizing however that the sentence didn’t sound correct to him.

We would win I’m not sure Leclerc asked Bozza questioningly, with the engineer who, at that point, could do nothing but comment with a laconic “No, but it’s okay, they will understand. The Monegasque driver, who however seems to want to improve not only on the track but also with the Italian, still asked his engineer “How do you say sorry?“, and after receiving no response for a few seconds, laughing he urged telling him “I guess you don’t know either”.

The dialogue on the radio between Leclerc and the Ferrari garage is pure confusion: “Forget what I said”

Bozzi still gave Leclerc the lead correct wording of the sentence “If we had won.” Who knows if the next time we race in Italy, in the Monza GP on September 1st, Leclerc will be able to no longer have to use the subjunctive mood to indicate his victory, with Red Bull which, in the last two races, did not it seems more so unbeatable.
