The Giallorossi winger could leave Trigoria after yet another injury. The contract expires in June but the new manager still seems to want to focus on him
Leonardo Spinazzola may have ended his adventure in Rome with another (yet another) injury. The winger from Foligno scored one against Bayer Leverkusen right thigh flexor injury which could keep him out until the end of this season which however (in theory) will be his last in the Giallorossi. The contract expiring in June it has not yet been renewed and from what had emerged until a few months ago, there would have been no margin to do so due above all to the player’s requests. But then it arrived de Rossi and above all his words in the press conference before the return match against Leverkusen: “Over there we have Spinazzola, who did well in the national team, it could be something that will be useful to us continuously, not only in the future but also in the present.” Words that have reopened a glimmer, albeit minimal, of see him again in Trigoria next year. We’re thinking about it for the summer Juventus in what would be a sensational return, while in January the Turks of Galatasaray showed up. For the moment all is quiet, there are no updates on the market front except the open door left by De Rossi who has always had a great relationship with Spinazzola. They were teammates in the national team and it was the Giallorossi coach who carrying it on his shoulders during the celebrations for the European Championship won. This is Leonardo’s (injury) score Spinazzola since in July 2019 he was made official as the new Giallorossi player in the exchange that brought Luca Pellegrini to Juventus. Then a series of highs (see the match against Salzburg where he was the author of two fabulous assists) and lows (see the constant injuries and the exchange that never went through with Inter). Spinazzola was (and still is) a cross and a delight. Impossible to rely on it and the BayArena match demonstrated it: “That band and that exchange between Spinazzola and Angelino was our main part of preparing for the match, we saw that Bayer was causing confusion in the area with the markings. Then a player suddenly strains…”. These are the words of de Rossi after the draw in Leverkusen. Words that underline even more the deficit of the blue winger. Potentially strong enough to be able to prepare a match on him, but fragile. The future is in the balance, De Rossi seems to want to focus on him again. However, the will of the Friedkins and the new sporting director remains to be understood.
