A real madness on the part of a spectator who immediately after the start of the time trial bumped into Filippo Ganna, risking causing him to fall. Fortunately he only skidded, regaining control of the bike and continuing the race.
Incredible at the Giro d’Italia time trial at the start of Filippo Ganna: after just a few metres, an imprudent fan waved her arms trying to celebrate, waving at the cameras and not noticing the arrival of the cyclist, committing a real madness, hitting Ganna on the forearm who skidded and risked falling. Ganna also turned around, almost in disbelief: fortunately he managed to stay on the bike and continue the time trial in which he is among the top favourites.
A gesture that was simply intended to be celebratory, but which was almost decisive in the negative for the Olympic champion who in this time trial from Foligno to Perugia for the seventh stage of the 2024 Giro d’Italia is among the main favorites for the final victory. It would be the first stage success of this 107th edition for Ganna who started with concentration at the start. But he had to face a setback that no one would have expected, least of all him. Just before the first swerve, the same one in which a couple of cyclists fell from the barriers an arm of a fan appeared who overjoyed to see Ganna pass a few centimeters away.
The spectator’s hand hit Ganna’s left forearm and he skidded dangerously before regaining control. The fan was not facing the start but in favor of the cameras who were preceding Ganna, with the intention of being noticed and greeting. A dangerous moment which then saw Ganna himself turn around annoyed by the setback, only to soon recover his concentration for a very long and difficult time trial in which to try to make the difference. A difference made from the first kilometers on the flat with the best intermediates, confirming the undoubted qualities of his time trial skills.
