Dominic Thiem announces retirement at the end of 2024

A victory at the US Open in 2020, three more Grand Slam finals between the Australian Open and Roland Garros, third place in the ATP ranking as the best position achieved. He could have become a phenomenon of this sport, but some circumstances meant it wasn’t: Dominic Thiem announces retirement.

The phenomenal Austrian made it official today that he will hang up his racket at the end of 2024: the last appointment of his career should be at home in Vienna.

His words on social networks: “Hi everyone. I have to convey to you a very important message, a sad and, at the same time, very beautiful message. The 2024 season will be my last season. I will end my career at the end of this season. There are a few reasons behind this decision. The main one, of course, is that my wrist isn’t behaving the way it should. It’s not what I would like it to be. The second reason concerns personal reasons, my inner feeling: I have been pondering this issue for quite some time, thinking carefully about this decision.
At the same time, I thought and meditated on my journey as a player, which was incredible.”

It’s still: “I won big titles, I had success that I never dreamed of, so the journey has been incredible, with its ups and downs, but it has been an impressive experience that I will always be grateful for. However, in the end, the decision to end my career in 2024 is the only right decision. I am very happy with this decision and very excited for everything that comes next. I will give much more information soon.”
