Biella Rugby grit and heart: wins at the last second

It’s a magical season for Biella Rugby. On Saturday afternoon, in advance of the last day of the championship, the last at home, the yellow-greens achieved victory by beating Cus Milano 17-10, at the end of a match that was anything but easy, drawn for a long time and won right at the end.

Perhaps not the best match of the season, but certainly a match of the highest level in defense and with a lot of heart when a draw now seemed to be the best result obtainable, considering the final forcing of the guests.

Perez Caffe scores a goal (converted by Loro) in the 17th minute of the first half: nothing else to report in the first 40 minutes.

In the second half a free kick for each side and in the 15th minute the score was 10-3. In the 24th minute there was a cold shower: a converted try by the Milanese brought the score to 10-10 and Biella seemed to be in crisis. Cus tries to win, they get close to the goal line, but don’t go any further and when there’s a minute left Mondin intercepts and runs along the flank, near the halfway line he serves Vaccaro who concludes by scoring the winning try converted by Loro.

Party under the stands and then in the locker room. Biella is mathematically second: a historic result that goes hand in hand with the promotion to A1 already achieved last week.

Coach Alberto Benettin says: «I had asked the boys to honor the field where we play in front of our fans who have always been very generous with us and we did so. Probably not showing the best game we are capable of, but the heart and the desire to fight were always there, until the last second. And right at the last second we managed to snatch this victory. Objective achieved, this is the most important thing.”
