The Rome Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation file, currently without suspects or hypotheses of crime, in relation to the affair of Matteo Falcinelli, the 25-year-old tied up and beaten by officers in Miami after his arrest. The proceeding was opened in light of the report received in Piazzale Clodio from the Consulate. While waiting for the boy’s complaint, in which the crimes of torture and injury could be hypothesized, the investigators will have to evaluate the issues related to competence and jurisdiction.
“We have found the maximum availability of the chief prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi and the deputy prosecutor Ilaria Calò and therefore, in the next few days as soon as Matteo returns to Italy, we will present a complaint. At the moment here in Piazzale Clodio, based on what we have learned, there is it’s just a report from the Consulate.”
This is what is stated by the lawyer Francesco Maresca, lawyer for the family of Matteo Falcinelli, the young man tied up and beaten by the agents in Miami after his arrest, at the end of the meeting, in the Rome prosecutor’s office, with the prosecutor Lo Voi and the deputy Calò, who was also attended by the former parliamentarian and lawyer David Ermini.
The mother, returning to Italy next week
“Yesterday morning the judge granted Matteo the extension of the current travel permit with the possibility for him to remain in Italy until 30 June 2024. We are waiting for the issuance of the official document, hoping to receive before our departure also the file with all the audio and video recordings regarding Matteo’s case. We therefore think we will be able to return to Italy towards the end of next week”. This is what Mrs. Vlasta, the mother of Matteo Falcinelli, the young man tied up and beaten by the Miami police last February after an arrest, announces.
