A ten-month-old baby girl died after ingesting bleach. A tragic event that shook the community of Noto, a town with just over 24 thousand inhabitants not far from Syracuse. The authorities have opened an investigation to shed light on what happened in the family’s residence, which is located on the outskirts of Noto, and the police are working to collect evidence and details on the matter. According to initial reconstructions, the mother, two little brothers and the newborn were in the house. The little girl allegedly came into contact with a bucket containing a rag soaked in bleach. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation: it is not clear whether the little girl dipped her head in the bucket or whether the bleach ended up on her in another way.
Family members questioned
When the mother noticed what had happened, she raised the alarm and the neighbors intervened promptly to help her. The little girl was urgently transported to the nearby Trigona hospital, but unfortunately she died shortly after arriving in the emergency room. She probably arrived at the hospital already unconscious. The investigators, in the meantime, have questioned the family members, who are in shock, and have carried out investigations inside the house to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the events. The mayor of Noto, Corrado Figura, also spoke on the tragic event and expressed his condolences. «A mourning for the whole city. We are awaiting the evolution of the investigators’ investigations: it is a great pain for all of us and as a father I mourn this loss which creates a great void”, declared the mayor.
