Lilith is 39 years old, she is a therapist and a writer, but she is not here to tell us about herself. Because just as she was on the trail of a story to tell in her next young adult novel, she had an encounter that changed her view of many aspects of her life, and even the meaning of her work. What does it mean to tell someone else’s story? Is it possible to take care of it, is it possible to take up the baton of a dream? These are difficult questions, but Lilith has decided to explore them fully because the answers are very close to her heart. And so she tells us the story that was entrusted to her: the story of Sister Julia Bolton Holloway, who is 86 years old and is a famous scholar of medieval thought but also the custodian of the English cemetery in Florence. A place that under her guidance was filled with life and initiatives, with the supportive collaboration of a group of people who found there a possibility for interaction and integration. A project that transforms the memory of a place that by definition hosts shadows and memories into something alive, demonstrating that the answer to Lilith’s question is: yes. It is possible to care about the stories of others.
