The title, Hind’s hallrecalls the occupation of Hamilton Hall in the Columbia University of New York, occupied and then evicted by the police last week, where pro-Palestinian demonstrators symbolically renamed the building with the name of a Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, who died in Gaza from wounds sustained after an Israeli army raid on the car in which he traveled with his family. Before dying, the little girl had managed to telephone her mother and the recording of her cries went around the world.

In the song Macklemore also says he won’t vote for Joe Biden in the next presidential elections in November 2024 because of his support for Israel: “The blood is on your hands Biden we can see it all / Of course not, I won’t vote for you in the fall.” On Instagram the clip obtained over 10 million views in the first 13 hours of publication.

Macklemore, who rose to fame with the single Can’t hold us with Ryan Lewis 11 years ago, has repeatedly expressed his support for Gaza. The artist often presented himself with the Palestinian keffiyeh during his live concerts and last December he took part in a pro-Palestine demonstration in Washington.
