“If I go there I’ll die.” How is the 89-year-old singer doing?

Ornella Vanoni will not take part in this year’s edition of “One None One Hundred Thousand” at the Verona Arena. The concert organized by Fiorella Mannoia to raise funds against gender violence will therefore not see the 89-year-old singer, fresh from a double theater commitment in Milan. It was Vanoni herself who announced her cancellation on social media: «I really, really wanted to come and sing to raise funds for women, but I did two concerts… I didn’t calculate well and after two concerts of two hours each, very beautiful, very successful, I no longer walked. The lactic acid… I couldn’t move anymore so I couldn’t. A deadly tiredness.”

Ornella Vanoni: «I can’t participate, if I come I’ll die»

Vanoni’s decision, worried about her health, is to stop: My son and everyone told me I couldn’t come. “You can’t go or you die” and they’re right, I would have died. However, I wish you all the best because there are many of you this year and it is right that we have men this time. Before it was only women, but now it is men and women who are fighting against feminicide. I wish you two wonderful evenings.”

One None One Hundred Thousand – In the Arena

It is an evening of notes, with an orchestra, which embraces all women, which on 8 May will be broadcast in prime time on Rai1 and simultaneously on Rai Radio2 and on RaiPlay, for “Una Quale Centomila – In Arena”, the event that for two live evenings filled the Verona Arena with the great voices of Italian music, united on stage against violence against women.

«After the 2022 concert in Campovolo – said Fiorella Mannoia, one of the protagonists on stage and honorary president of the Una Quale Centomila foundation – we decided that our commitment could not end there and we became a foundation. ‘One Hundred Thousand’ was born from the observation of a reality that speaks of a woman killed every three days. Only a small minority finds the courage to report violence of any kind and our task is also to tell women that by asking for help they can get out of a nightmare.” And just as in 2022, today too there were many artists who responded to the ‘call to the arts’ of Fiorella and the entire Foundation.

As well as the public, who with the purchase of the ticket has already allowed the Verona event to raise 600,000 euros. The amount will be donated to numerous Anti-Violence Centers scattered throughout Italy, from Basilicata to Calabria, passing through Caivano in Campania but also in Puglia, Sicily, Sardinia, Lazio, Liguria and Veneto.

In terms of music played and sung, if the event at the Verona Arena could only start with the notes of ‘Mariposa’ by Fiorella Mannoia, on stage, presented by Amadeus at his last major event as presenter on Rai, there were followed by a long series of unreleased performances and duets. Tananai and Elodie on the notes of ‘Tango’, Giuliano Sangiorgi who ‘duetted’ with the entire Arena audience with ‘Meraviglioso’, then Alessandra Amoroso, Annalisa, Samuele Bersani, Big Mama, Brunori Sas, Elodie and again Emma, Niccolò Fabi, Achille Lauro, Ermal Meta, Francesca Michielin, Fabrizio Moro, Noemi and Paola Turci. Piero Pelù and Mahmood were also added to these for the second evening of the event.
