It was the year 2001 when Tiziano Ferro exploded onto the Italian pop music scene with the album Xdono. A hit produced by Mara Maionchi and her husband, Alberto Salerno. There seemed to be a peaceful and affectionate relationship between the two, until the record company threw a poisonous ball at the Latina singer during the interview with Belve. Since then there have been several long-distance exchanges, considering that Tiziano Ferro lives in Los Angeles and cannot return to Italy at the moment due to the divorce proceedings from her husband, in which the singer-songwriter has shown himself to be very bitter. However, at least for the moment, Mara Maionchi seems to have had the last word.
Mara Maionchi-Tiziano Ferro, what happened
The dig at Tiziano Ferro came during the last episode of “Belve”, when the presenter Francesca Fagnani asked the record producer if anyone “didn’t understand that meeting her was lucky”. A question to which Maionchi initially tried to respond diplomatically: “I don’t want to mention names so as not to be rude, but someone didn’t understand it.” But Fagnani had insisted, and so the record company had spilled the beans, mentioning the name of the Latina singer: «In my opinion, Tiziano Ferro didn’t really understand it. Because he didn’t think that both my husband and I helped him to be what in the end he partly is. But it’s not important, you don’t have to be grateful.”
Tiziano Ferro’s answer
After the bomb dropped on Belve, the singer decided to respond on Instagram, providing fans with his version. «The first thing I taught my children is to say “thank you”, the second is to say “sorry”. I have always been grateful to you, I have proven it to you a million times on a million occasions so I ask myself: why this? Why now? We met so many times: TV studios, concerts, dressing rooms and every time we hugged each other and laughed about the good old days. If that’s really what you thought, why didn’t you ever tell me during one of these occasions? I would have reassured you, I would have apologized and I would have thanked you again, as always and without problem.”

I could post the myriad of interviews in which I celebrated you, the thanks in the booklet of my albums in which you were at the forefront of the thanks, our prank call, an infinite series of quotes in my book or on the web – in all the languages of world, because I have talked about you and Alberto in many places around the globe. But I’ll just post this video. Maybe I’m a fool but to me this seemed like a heartfelt hug.
What a shame, how sad”, the singer added before posting a video in which he hugs Mara Maionchi.
Weight and homosexuality
For Tiziano Ferro, however, the issue is not closed here, and he returns to the topic by publishing an article signed by Grazia Samburna among the stories of his Instagram profile: «Mara Maionchi calls Tiziano Ferro ungrateful. Mara Maionchi is the record company who ‘discovered’ him in 2001 by launching our first album, Rosso Relativo. There are two conditions: lose weight and never say you are gay. Otherwise, no contract. Because he had to be a teen idol and couldn’t afford extra pounds and homosexuality.” «So Ferro, twenty years old at the time, immediately learned to experience himself as a horrible secret. Millions of people loved him for everything he wasn’t: straight and skinny. So much so that already after the incredible success of the first album, the young man went to South America and didn’t want to know anything more about “music”. However, things went differently, but with some consequent problems. Again according to Sambruna, in fact, «This led him to be, in addition to being a highly performing musical product, an infinitely unhappy person off stage. Resulting in alcoholism and self-esteem problems for professionals. In addition to the sacred terror, for ten years, of eating a plate of carbonara in peace or of being seen around with whoever he wanted. He would have lost everything otherwise. Mara Maionchi’s reply
It is then up to Mara Maionchi to speak again. «I would have liked to maintain a relationship with Tiziano Ferro. We worked so hard together. I would have liked a “hi, how are you doing?” or “Merry Christmas”. Maybe we didn’t understand each other and I’m sorry. I told the truth about gratitude, I prefer the human one to the economic one”, her words during the press conference to present the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
On Instagram the record producer posted a story with more relaxed tones: «I answered a question by giving priority to my emotional one without arguing further: human gratitude, the one that allows relationships to continue beyond the profession, was the ‘the absence that regrets me the most, especially for me who has maintained long-lasting relationships with many artists, those with more successful careers as well as those who have undertaken other paths”: this is how the famous TV face began. «Someone has hatefully advanced the hypothesis that it has prevented you from being yourself: I smile because my history of closeness to this topic speaks for me who, among other things, considers that freedom and self-determination are sacred. Good luck with your projects and for the serenity that I hope you find: stay close to your family because that’s all that really matters”, he commented via social media, putting what – for his part – seems to be the word “end” to the case.
