Night of fear after the earthquake that hit the Campi Flegrei yesterday evening, May 20th, in the area between Bacoli and Pozzuoli. A earthquake of magnitude 4.4the strongest felt in the area since 1980, was also felt in Naples at 7.51pm.

From 7.51pm on May 20th until 12.31am today, Tuesday 21st May, preliminary recordings were made about 150 earthquakes. The inspections conducted during the evening highlighted minor damage to buildings: in the end, fallen rubble and a lot of fear. The population poured into the streets, many preferred to sleep in their cars without returning to their homes. No injuries were reported.

Tent cities prepared by the Civil Protection have been set up in Pozzuoli and Bagnoli. In Bacoli, an area was set up to provide hospitality to those who did not want to return to their homes. In Pozzuoli, in particular, 35 displaced families also found hospitality in one of the reception areas.

THE mayors of Bacoli and Pozzuoli have ordered the closure of schools for today, May 21st. In Naples, the mayor Gaetano Manfredi has ordered the closure of schools in Municipalities IX and X, which include the neighborhoods of Bagnoli, Fuorigrotta, Soccavo and Pianura. Schools also closed in Qualiano, the northern area of ​​Naples.

Seismicity is not a predictable phenomenon, recalls the INGV Vesuvian Observatory: therefore it cannot be ruled out that other seismic events may occur, even of similar energy to what has already been recorded during the current swarm.
