Perugia, the candidate for mayor Vittoria Ferdinandi presents her program

The meeting took place on Sunday 19th at the Casenuove CVA

“We think of a city that can best interpret the role of capital of the ‘green heart of Italy’. And to do so, we intend to put urban regeneration, the care and enhancement of greenery at the center of our administrative action, to be finally understood as a strategic and identity action and no longer an affectation as some people understand it”.

This is what Vittoria Ferdinandi declared on the occasion of the meeting which took place on Sunday 19th at the CVA of Casenuove, entitled “The city that recovers” coordinated by Marco Pizzi of the University of Perugia, which was attended by, among others, David Grohmann, Leonardo Alfonsi and Piera Pandolfi, candidates in the next municipal elections on the Anima Perugia list.

“We need to redefine the relationship between city and landscape” declared Ferdinandi. “And we will do this through a plan that, starting from listening to the needs of citizens, manages to release transformative energies that move on the basis of a long thought and not on the scheme of an eternal present to which this administration has condemned us until Today”.

“In an urban planning framework with zero land consumption, like the one we imagine in the context of a new PRG participated from below – he continued – we want to create a pact with the builders on the urban regeneration front, a necessary piece for the valorisation of the existing building stock, residential, commercial and industrial, in connection with public spaces. Some of these spaces can already be usefully imagined as places to relaunch the city. I am thinking for example of the Palazzo della Poste, in Piazza Matteotti, which will be freed following the construction of the judicial citadel”.

“In this sense – he underlines – I take up Professor Belardi’s proposal: let’s bring the new Department of Architecture and Design there. We bring the University back to the heart of the historic center with a course of studies in architecture, specialized at an international level, on the themes of greenery and landscape, sustainability and urban regeneration. In this way we can honor the vocation that the ‘green heart of Italy’ must have”.

“And then there is room for a plan to combat climate change – he continues – with concrete projects, from the valorisation of urban gardens, on the Seattle model, a large tree-lined belt project, the creation of cycle-pedestrian paths that serve to mend and enhance our neighborhoods,
shared care of green areas and adoption of the sponge city model to safeguard our water and environmental resources”.

“The Municipality – finally – will also undertake to promote knowledge and implement the dissemination of “collaboration agreements” as a privileged tool for participatory management and regeneration of assets in a state of abandonment, of public or private ownership, aimed at the satisfaction of fundamental rights of individuals and the community”.
