PESCARA. The embrace of Luciano D’Amico and packed Piazza Unione welcomed Pescara last night Elly Schleinnational secretary of the Democratic Party and candidate for the European Parliament “only” to boost the party.
«It’s a pleasure to be back in Pescara. Be there to support our candidate for mayor, Carlo Costantini. It is an important challenge for this city. The Democratic Party presents itself with a strong, competitive, beautiful list, made up of many skills.” This is how Schlein made his debut before going on stage with the Democratic Party leaders at the European elections, Lucia Annunziatathe candidate from Abruzzo Manola Di Pasqualethe candidate for mayor of Pescara, Carlo Costantinithat of Montesilvano, Fabrizio D’Addaziothe regional secretary of the dem, Daniele Marinelli and the leader of the Pact for Abruzzo, D’Amico.
Regarding the municipal elections in Pescara, Schlein stated that «for me it is a great pleasure to be here, knowing and having seen first-hand in previous visits the discontent of many towns and citizens with the actions of the outgoing mayor. So,” he added, “we try to provide an alternative with a strong coalition that has a very clear idea of what it wants to do for this city.”
Healthcare at the center of his speech: «The priority for us is the defense of public health that this government is trying to dismantle», he said. «As the Democratic Party we have presented a bill to ask for more resources for public health and it is a great hiring plan. We challenge the government to vote for this law together with us, because even in some regions led by the right it has been voted on and therefore we challenge it to do so at a national level.” Regarding the Jobs Act, Schlein explained that he signed the referendums on work and against precariousness “because they are in line with my history and with the positions I put forward in the primaries”.
And on her candidacy for the European Parliament, to which she will not go anyway, she said: “I have made myself available to the party to strengthen this team and to get the greatest number of votes in order to get more MPs and MPs elected.” And again: «I am happy that in this constituency the list is led not by me but by a great journalist like Annunziata, an expert in international politics and we know well how much we need people like her in Brussels with the wars that unfortunately return to inflame our neighborhood, but it is also a symbol of the fight we are fighting for freedom of the press.”
Finally the appeal: «Recognize the state of Palestine at a European level, because Palestinians also have the right to live in their own state in peace and security. I want a Europe that immediately calls for a ceasefire in Gaza to stop the massacre. We want a ceasefire precisely to free all the hostages still in the hands of Hamas”, is his message of peace.
