The development of Marmore and Piediluco was discussed at the Palasì in Terni. A workshop entitled “Between the coast and the waterline” organized by the Order of Architects, the Collective Domain of Piediluco and the Proloco of Marmore. A focus on the potential of the two hamlets which, not yet valorised as they deserve, find themselves having to deal with administrations without local interlocutors, with the same administrators who do not know the local realities. And so the architecture students thought about practicing in the area complete with maps and drawings and the presentation of 11 projects which will be the subject of the final exam. The boys examined the entire hydraulic system of the Marmore, the dams, the regulator bridge, the thousand streams of water that flow and emerge in the most unexpected places when the waterfall is in operation. A day of school between practice and theory also thanks to the contribution of the Hidra museum which continues to be visited by hundreds of people and which is open every day. Miro Virili, architect and historian, acted as a guide for the young people, touring the length and breadth of Marmore, illustrating its beauties. Then we moved on to the critical issues of the lake town, finding ideas that the young students wrote down in their notebooks and also sketching the reconstruction of the Piediluco station and the entire surrounding area with the recovery of the Volta lake (now dried up) and the the entire Canale plain where the first lake dwellings were found, a sign of the ancient history of the village. And again. The study of the Echo mountain with its pyramid shape has already been studied for its perfect shape. Following the alleys upstream of the town where the “old” village developed many hundreds of years ago to ensure that the floods, long before the construction of the Curiano canal which brings water to the Marmore waterfall, did not submerge them «We conducted the kids – explains Manola Conti president of the Proloco of Marmore – even in the critical areas where degradation has reigned for years and also in this case the students were able to give an answer to the recovery of these abandoned places”. It is worth pointing out that the study of the future architects did not take into account all the constraints that exist both in Marmore and on Lake Piediluco so they went freewheeling but it was an exercise that highlighted how the future of the two hamlets simply by going there, learning about the past and listening to the local people.
