“It is a shame that my predecessor as provincial leader of the party, Raffaele Di Mauro, a Foggia native who shouldn’t have worked too hard to be here, is not present. I’ll get over it and I think the people of Foggia will do the same too. I’m used to looking ahead and continuing on my path.”
Regional councilor Paolo Dell’Erba, provincial coordinator of Forza Italia since last January and candidate for the European elections in the Southern Constituencydoes not hesitate to underline the absence of his predecessor, who had the electoral committee opposite his when he was candidate for mayor of Foggia. Dell’Erba does not hide the bitterness and does not hold it back.
“It’s the only negative note,” he publicly declares, explaining the absence of some councillors. “In all parties, in the territories, when there are changes, it takes time to reach new balances and stability,” she observes. Four months after the congress, the internal currents are still evident.
Dell’Erba is the only prominent figure present at the inauguration of his committee in Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Also absent were the parliamentarian Giandiego Gatta, the city councilor Pasquale Rignanese and, in general, the historical leaders of the party.
As in Nanni Moretti’s famous dilemma, the absence stands out. At this point, it is difficult to say whether the provincial coordinator will be able to count on their support.
The leader of Forza Italia in the city council, Gino Fusco, tries to mobilize the masses: “Gino Fusco’s are enough,” he says in an annoyed tone regarding the absences. Also accompanying him on his tour is Nino Santarella.
After cutting the ribbon next to Rita Montrone, member of the provincial coordination, Fusco underlines the difference between the past and the present: “We are rebuilding the party”. He wants to help make Forza Italia the first party.
In the province of Foggia, “it is the only centre-right candidacy – highlights Santarella – therefore, those who have values in the moderate centre-right parties can only refer to Paolo Dell’Erba. Let’s think about the problems of agriculture and the difficulties of our cereal farmers, which we experience first-hand: Paolo Dell’Erba’s attention would certainly be greater than another candidate with origins elsewhere”.

It is a “challenging” electoral campaign, the candidate admits, promising to give his all to contribute to the party: “It is an electoral campaign that excites me, like all difficult challenges. Nothing in life is given to you.”
