Sesto San Giovanni. The student residence and the new headquarters of Banca Intesa are now included in the large redevelopment plan of the Falck areas in Sesto San Giovanni. On Monday 13 May Hines started excavations for the foundations and by autumn the cranes will arrive on Unione Zero, an area of 250 thousand square meters which will host the first private buildings.
After the development of public spaces, with construction already underway for the bridge station Renzo Piano and for the City of Health and Research, the construction of the new private area on the former industrial areas begins. The works begin with over a year’s delay due to a further reorganization of the Milanosesto company, which manages the former Falck, with the entry of new partners such as Coima, Redo and Banca Intesa.

The student hall it will be a 22 thousand square meter building, with 700 rooms capable of hosting a total of 800 students in single, double rooms and studios.
The student hall it will also include common areas accessible to both students and citizens. The first is a café with outdoor space, located on the corner of the new Piazza dello Student building and via Nuove Acciaierie. The second is a workshop space, designed for students but occasionally open to the public. Both services will be located on Piazza dello Studentato. The will rise next to it new headquarters of Banca Intesawhich from a simple mortgage creditor became a capital partner of Milanosesto spa last year.
The business center will cover an area of 29 thousand square metres, with a further 1,600 square meters of terraces and hanging gardens. It will house over 4 thousand bank employees in a 17-storey futuristic tower, designed by the studio ACPV ARCHITECTS (Citterio-Viel & Partners), which will also be responsible for the project of a hotel of around 300 rooms, destined to transform the skyline of Sesto San Giovanni.
The next step will be the awarding of public works, mainly for roads and parking in the sector, with the start of construction sites for the residential buildings. The technical investigations for the latter are nearing completion. “At the end of this last construction site, Sesto will host 800 off-site students and over 4,000 employees of the credit institution.” To these people will be added another 3 thousand doctors, nurses, technicians and administrative staff of the large hospital complex, which will be completed by November 2026 and will bring together the Cancer Institute and the Besta Neurological Institute, operational from the spring of 2027, barring further unforeseen events.
