Exhibition by Giorgia Grassi “PATHETIC LIGHTNESS” curated by Giovanni Tricca

The exhibition and the extraordinary events
“space. ART & PEOPLE” hosts the works of Giorgia Grassi, a young artist from the Roman scene, from 24 April to 2 June; the exhibition was curated by Giovanni Tricca, founder of the association.

The exhibition was inaugurated with a vernissage on 24 April, in which the artist, in addition to presenting his works, performed live, “Simulacrum of childhood”, a sculptural-installation work created by a made of wire and “coloured” with crystal balls also blown by the public, called to play together with the artist.

During the period of the exhibition, Spazio will involve other different realities that will give life to new live performances that will merge with the works on display, one on 29th and the other on 31st May.

On June 2nd instead, “space. ART & PEOPLE”, celebrates its second year since opening.

The curatorship and the works

Passionate about art from a young age, Grassi has cultivated her creativity as a means of expression and emotional research on her own biography. In what is her first personal exhibition she presented the works of the last two years, as well as the installation created live in the vernissage.

Among his works we find “Asfissia”, a work of great impact characterized by the color red and made with plastic material, inspired by Burri’s aesthetics, which goes out and breaks down the boundaries of the canvas, which really fails, both in the material that in the profile of the frame, non-existent.
Another work of great importance is “Stige” (210 x 245), made with acrylic and silicone on canvas.

The titles of the works and Giorgia’s story itself led to a curation focused on the strong emotional contrast that is inherent in her works, “Pathos And lightness”, words that can be looked at from various angles. The artist creates and leaves a biographical story that expresses this bivalence; “In his works he raises questions, questions that suggest catharsis, experiences on the razor’s edge, between the freest life and asphyxiation.”

Exhibiting his works in Sansepolcro was a significant choice for Grassi, the city, rich in history and culture, known for being the birthplace of the famous Renaissance painter Piero della Francesca, is also part of the Tiber Valley, where he had, in the City di Castello, also the birthplace of Alberto Burri, known for his innovative work with unconventional materials. Grassi is inspired by Burri’s multi-material work to express his emotional turmoil through out-of-the-ordinary materials, creating almost sculptural works that go beyond the two-dimensionality of the canvas.
