The tender for the assignment of a thousand new taxi licenses is arriving in Rome. The mobility councilor of Rome Capital, Eugenio Patanè, provided details on the timing and procedure during a hearing in the Capitoline transparency commission.
Patanè explained that the negotiation with the Transport Regulatory Authority is expected to be concluded by May. Subsequently, in June, the dialogue with the unions will be started.
The tender will be announced in July and the public agency Formez will manage the competitions for both taxis and NCCs (Rental with Driver).). Patanè underlined that the procedures carried out by the agency are extremely fast. It is hoped to have the winners by the end of September, with licenses issued in the following months.
The new taxi licenses, as confirmed several times by mayor Roberto Gualtieri and councilor Patanè, there will be a thousand permanent workers and 500 seasonal workers.
Patanè reiterated the importance of respecting the guidelines of the Transport Regulatory Authority. He stressed that it is essential that taxi drivers and chauffeurs have basic knowledge, such as familiarity with tourist places and knowledge of English, which are essential in a tourist city like Rome.
He added that it is necessary for drivers to know basic tax rules to guarantee an adequate service to citizens and tourists.
