Saturday 11 May the presentation conference took place 12th edition of “Orvieto in Fiore” in the Urbani Hall of the Opera del Duomo. During the event, representatives of the associations that collaborate on the program of initiatives were present, including Fidapa Bpw Italy section of Orvieto, Municipal School of Music “Adriano Casasole”, Unitre, Ars Vetana, Ikebana Ohara, Tramercato, Slow Food Conduct and Loredana Materazzo Dance School.
The president of the Opera del Duomo, Andrea Taddeiexpressed the pleasure of hosting the “Orvieto in Fiore” conference, since the event is strongly linked to celebration of Pentecost and the traditional Palombella festival.
The Mayor of Orvieto, Roberta Tardaniunderlined that the best days for the city are coming, those that bring us to traditional festivals and that make us feel even more like a community.
It is dedicated toLove the 12th edition of “Orvieto in Bloom”the event that accompanies the city of the Duomo on the weekend of Pentecostand of Palombella, from May 17th to 19th.
She also spoke during the press conference Maria Rosa Borsetti, representing the Etruscan Roman Wine Route of Orvieto, who illustrated the initiative organized together with the Orvieto Neighborhoods Committee for 17 and 18 May, specifying that the project offer does not only become entertainment for residents, but a comet for local tourism. This year a “focus” on Orvieto white wine.
The Orvieto in Fiore 2024 Program:
Off we go Friday 17 May at 4pm in the council room of the Municipality of Orvieto, as per tradition, with the selection and awarding of the sketches from which the floral displays will then be made. Drawings developed by the students of classes 2A, 2B, 2C, 3C, 3D of the Orvieto artistic high school on the theme chosen by the Bishop of Orvieto and Todi, Monsignor Gualtiero Sigismondi, “There is no fear in love”, taken from the words of the Gospel of John. Immediately afterwards, in the Unification of Italy room, “The musical flowers of Orvieto“, the performance of the Maestro’s young students Riccardo Cambri at the Municipal music school “A.Casasole”.
Saturday 18 Maygive her 5.30pmwill depart from Piazza Cahen on path of the flowers with the music of“Luigi Mancinelli” Philharmonic who will accompany the jurors in evaluating the works carried out by the groups of flower arrangers from the four neighbourhoods. At the end of the route, around 7.30pmin Piazza San Giovenale the competition awards will be held “Floral aperitif”in collaboration with Maria Rosa Borsettiand gods “Balconies and shop windows in bloom with the colors of the neighborhoods”promoted by Fidapa. After refreshments, offered by Etruscan-Roman Wine Routedinner in the square in collaboration with the producers of TraMercato.
Sunday 19 May, day of Pentecostall in Piazza Duomo at 12 to witness the traditional flight of the Palombellaprelude to the afternoon show, starting at 4.30pm with the procession of participants with new costumes made this year that will arrive in Piazza del Popolo to leave room for the performance of Flag-wavers and musicians from the Neighborhoods and then to Crossbowmen Tournament the final outcome of which, together with the ranking of the flower displays, will determine the awarding of the Palombella Palio.
The other initiatives
Many collateral initiatives enrich the three days of the program. From May 17th to 19th Republic square will host the horticultural marketartisan and agricultural production within which, on Saturday 18 May, the Slow Food Day 2024 with the “Lumachella Laboratory” edited by Conduct of Orvietoin collaboration with Stefano Pelagri.
From Friday to Sunday four different shows and displays in as many locations in the city: at the atrium of Palace of the Seven “Flowers of Love”at the Greek Museum “A Rose for Orvieto” the exhibition of Orvieto lace with the works of the communities applying for the recognition of lace as a UNESCO intangible heritage, at the Church of Sant’Andrea “Flights of Peace” with the patchwork created by the Laboratory ofUnitrand, in theformer church of Sant’Agostino “Spring Wind”the exhibition of the students ofIkebana Ohara Chapter RomeAnd “The tuff flowers”paintings executed by Nata Kulicka.

The “Aperitif Floral Wine – Street Food” initiative:
The Orvieto Neighborhoods Committee in collaboration with the Etruscan Roman Wine Route of Orvietoon the occasion of “Orvieto in bloom”, he organized for the 17 e May 18th the FLORAL APERITIF WINE -STREET FOOD., which consists in combining cocktails based on fruity Orvieto wines (rose, prosecco, sparkling wine and others) pure or even mixed with other liqueurs with the finger-food tasting of local gastronomic products, but all, both drinks and food, they must stick to the theme of the competition, that is, they must be created and decorated with flowers and fruit, with skill, originality and skill of the bartenders and chefs and pastry chefs.
Edible flowers often constitute a decorative element in refined dishes, for this occasion there will have to be a street food and very pop version of the flowers, and it will have to be discovered which flowers or fruit, present in nature, can be transformed into pancakes, sweet cakes or savouries, pastries, pastes, syrups, jams, fruit salads and eating and tasting these delicacies combined with fruity wine cocktails, for a particular, tasty experience worth trying.

two members of the Neighborhood Citizens Committee, will visit the participating businesses, considering precise reference parameters to award the score, which will concern: the layout, creativity, hospitality and originality.
The awards ceremony will take place in Piazza San Giovenale on Saturday 18 May starting from 7.30 pm, where the moment will be enlivened by the music of Vittorio Tarparelli and the splendid voice of Ilaria La Volpe.
Also worth mentioning are the particular initiatives entitled “Historical and Etruscan aperitif” which will take place on Saturday 18 May 2024, in various historic locations in Orvieto, as follows:

Mancinelli Theatre
At 11am and 6pm, historical aperitif within the splendid setting of the Mancinelli Theatre, with tasting of aperitifs and nineteenth-century dishes paired with Orvieto wines.
You can take part in a guided tour inside the Theater at the times: 11am and 6pm.

Hadrian’s Labyrinth
At 12pm and 7pm Etruscan aperitif in the evocative Etruscan-themed Hadrian’s Labyrinth. You will be able to taste foods that refer to the historical period and visit the underground which offers cisterns and tunnels from the 5th century BC

Olmo and Serancia alla Cava
At 11am and 6pm Double visit and double tasting in the heart of the medieval quarter, where Olmo and Serancia meet.
Guided tour of the Small Marian Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Cave and the Archaeological Complex of the Pozzo della Cava, with tasting of Orvieto wines paired with dishes inspired by the 16th century of the 2nd construction site of the Pozzo and the 17th century of the Baroque restoration of the Church.
