The resident population in Veneto is 4,849,553, based on the Census in December 2022, (+1,808 compared to 2021.0.04%); almost two fifths live in the provinces of Padua and Verona (38.3%).
Even in Veneto there is a record birth rate: 31,754 (-1,045 compared to 2021), while the mortality rate rose from 11 per thousand in 2021 to 11.4 per thousand in 2022, with a peak of 15 per thousand in the Rovigo area.
Women are 50.9% (+84 thousand over men).
The average age increased from 46.4 to 46.6 years. Foreigners are 498,127 (+5,008), 10.3%. They come from 172 countries, especially Romania (25.4%), Morocco (9.2%) and China (7.3%). Mountain municipalities have the greatest decrease in residents and with an older age structure. Residents are growing in four provinces: the highest in Verona (+1,632, 0.2%); Venice (-1,021), Rovigo (-961) and Belluno (-571) lose. Almost two fifths live in the Padua area (19.2%) and the Verona area (19.1%). Then Treviso, Vicenza and Venice, which together have over half the population. Belluno and Rovigo have 8.8%. The internal migration balance (with the other Italian municipalities) is +8,176, going from 1.4 in 2021 to 1.7 per thousand in 2022; it grows in all provinces except Vicenza, where it drops from 1.5 to 1.2 per thousand. The difference between entries and exits from abroad gives a positive migratory balance in all the provinces, equal to just over 18 thousand units at Veneto level. Almost 60% live between Verona (22.3%), Padua (19.4%) and Treviso (18.0%), 6.4% in Rovigo and Belluno. The demographic balance shows a growth of 5,008 foreigners in 2021 (+1%). All provinces have growth rates of foreigners except Treviso (-0.1%), with values between 0.1% in Verona and 3.6% in Rovigo. 44.6% of the 563 Venetian municipalities have a population between 1,001 and 5,000 inhabitants, and just under 15% of the inhabitants live there. 17% live in the four municipalities with over 100,000 inhabitants (Verona, Venice, Padua, which exceed 200 thousand; Vicenza is just over 100 thousand); more than a quarter (25.3%) live in the 93 municipalities with between 10,001 and 20,000 inhabitants. Among the non-capital municipalities, Chioggia (47,735), Bassano (42,470), S.Donà (41,620) exceed 40 thousand units. There is a high presence of lowland municipalities (60.7%) in which over three-quarters of the population lives (76.7%), while 16.5% live in hill municipalities (20.6%). Almost one municipality in 5 is classified as mountainous and 6.8% of the population lives there.
Laghi (VI) is the smallest municipality (125 inhabitants) and the largest population increase in 2021 (4.2%). The greatest decrease (-5.4%) is in Cibiana di Cadore (BL). The change in foreigners compared to 2021 is lowest overall in Ospitale di Cadore (-21.4%) and highest (33.3%) in S.Nicolò di Comelico (BL).
