During a recent interview given to “La Politica nel balloon” on Rai GR Parliament, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club of Italy, touched on the uncertain topic of the future of the Imola GP in Formula 1. “The permanence of Imola in the F1 calendar is a very important question, especially in light of our current contract which covers us until 2025,” Sticchi Damiani explained. “We hope to compensate for the missed edition in 2023 with an additional one in 2026, to complete the five foreseen by the contract.”
Italy’s Unique Position in the F1 Calendar
Italy stands out in the international F1 scene, being the only European country to host two Grands Prix. “This reality makes us an extraordinary case and a source of pride. However, faced with the need to reduce the number of GPs in Europe to encourage new openings in America and elsewhere, Italy, with its two events, could represent a more manageable option to rebalance the calendar,” explained the president. “Despite this, we are determined to do everything we can to keep both events alive, emphasizing Imola’s value in the world of Formula 1.”
