Bologna, 14 May 2024 – Moments of chaos in the early afternoon yesterday atMarconi airport. Some flights sthey were deleted, others hijacked on other national airports. Operations at the Bologna airport were in fact suspended for over an hour, from 3pm to 4.15pm, when the alarm went off due to the possible presence of a gun inside the luggage of a passenger. Excited moments during which the Polaria agents they intervened for a check in order to verify whether the weapon was actually present inside the suitcase. A check which, fortunately, gave a negative result: the report, in fact, as explained by the Police Headquarters, arose from a “reading error caused by a new machine recently arrived at Marconi”. It is not yet clear whether the alarm – further investigations will be carried out on this – according to which it seemed that the luggage was inside “the silhouette of a gun”, was caused “by human or technical error”.
A situation, however, that has created quite a few inconvenience cith the Bolognese airport which went haywire for more than an hour: due to the alert due to the possible presence of the weapon, a total of nine flights were cancelled, while 11 (including those taking off from cities such as Brindisi, Brussels , Stockholm, Athens, Paris and Seville) were diverted to other national airports.
Not only, another 18 – all the faces scheduled from 2.30 pm onwards – instead suffered dedelays of about a couple of hours. In total, therefore, passengers on 38 planes suffered various types of inconvenience. Despite the problems, however, activity at Marconi airport resumed regularly yesterday afternoon, around 5pm. complicated afternoon which arrives at a time when the airport is facing various construction sites, including the redevelopment of the security area where the insertion of the new standard 3 x-ray machines which allow liquids not to be removed from luggage is underway.
Beyond to this, there is also the redevelopment of the Schengen departures area. Inconveniences that led Marconi to ask passengers to show up three hours in advance: in exchange, since May 1st, the airport has offered coffee to those who have to show up between midnight and 4am.
