Below is a press release released by Ugl:
“A 55-year-old worker Mario Sandro Bainotto died while he was working in the quarry in Contrada Petrucco di Pignola in the province of Potenza. Rescue operations were activated immediately by the 118 air ambulance which confirmed the death due to severe crushing trauma. The causes of the accident are still to be ascertained. The investigations will provide an answer and ascertain responsibilities but the Ugl believes that being indignant about what happens every day in the workplace is no longer enough. This latest tragedy at work has broken a family and a community and illustrates an obvious problem, namely the lack of safety. We believe that it is a duty to implement controls to verify compliance with the regulations and promote a real culture of workplace safety. It is necessary to focus on education and adequate training starting from secondary schools. Saying ‘enough’ to the so-called white deaths is no longer enough. It is necessary to intervene on prevention to avoid the repetition of similar tragedies.”
This was stated by Giuseppe Palumbo, Provincial Secretary of Ugl Potenza regarding the fatal accident at work that occurred today in Pignola (PZ).
