The Giro d’Italia passes through Faenza and Bassa Romagna, changes to the road system

The 2024 edition of the Giro d’Italia pays homage to the flooded areas of Romagna with the thirteenth stage from Riccione to Cento. In the province of Ravenna the runners will pass through Faenza, Cotignola, Bagnacavallo, Lugo, Sant’Agata sul Santerno, Massa Lombarda and Conselice

The thirteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2024, 179 km from Riccione to Cento on Friday 17 May, will take the riders to the territories of Romagna affected by the flood a year ago. How traffic changes in Faenza and Bassa Romagna for the Giro d’Italia

This is the route in the municipality of Faenza: via Emilia Levante – via Forlivese – via F.lli Rosselli – roundabout XXV Aprile – viale Ceramiche – viale IV Novembre – piazzale Sercognani – Cavalcaferrovia – Rotonda Niballo Palio di Faenza – via Granarolo – roundabout Città della Ceramica (toll booth A14) – via Granarolo (SP 8) – via Stecchetti (SP 8). The transit of runners is expected between 2.45pm and 3.15pm. The advertising caravan will pass about an hour before.

Main changes to traffic: ban on parking with forced removal for all vehicles along the entire route from 8am to 4pm; transit ban on the entire route from approximately 12.40 until the start of the race; according to initial indications, it is probable that circulation on the Via Emilia – SS9 towards Forlì will not be allowed from 12.15pm; crossing via F.lli Rosselli will be permitted (subject to further restrictions) until approximately 2pm at the traffic light intersection with via Malta – Cesarolo.

Furthermore, to allow stops and the service of public transport vehicles, there will be a parking ban with forced removal from 7pm on the stretch of Viale Baccarini between the intersection with Via Laghi/Via Oriani and Piazzale Cesare Battisti (railway station). from Thursday 16 May to 5pm on Friday 17 May.

In the Lower Romagna total closure to traffic of the provincial road 8 via Naviglio a Cotignolaof the Sp 253 San Vitale in the municipalities of Bagnacavallo, Lugo, Saint Agatha And Massa Lombarda and of the Sp 610 Selice in the municipality of Conselicefrom around 12pm until the end of his passage, estimated at 4pm.

To minimize disruption to road traffic, traffic barriers will be created gates to allow vehicles and means of transport to cross within inhabited centres:

  • at Cotignola crossing point of the Sp 8 Naviglio in Madrara street (direction via Salara and vice versa);
  • in Bagnacavallo crossing gate of the Sp 253 San Vitale in via Amendola (direction via Campanelle and vice versa);
  • in Lugo there are three crossing gates on the Sp 253 San Vitale: in Europe avenue (from the intersection with via Mentana to the intersection with via di Giù in the direction of viale Europa, and from the intersection with via di Giù to the intersection with via Umbria in both directions); in via Mentana (direction Piazza Garibaldi and vice versa); in via Canaletto (direction via Bonoli and vice versa);
  • in Sant’Agata two crossing gates on the Sp 253 San Vitale: at the roundabout of via San Martino (direction via Pedergnana Superiore and vice versa); in via Belfiore (direction via Fornace and vice versa);
  • in Massa Lombarda crossing point of the Sp 253 San Vitale in via Amendola (direction via Cimitero and vice versa);
  • in Conselice crossing point of the Sp 610 Selice at the roundabout via Biscepassable in both directions.

The prohibitions will be appropriately positioned with appropriate signs and, where necessary, local police or other police forces and volunteer staff will be present to provide supporting information.

Furthermore, the Giro advertising caravan is scheduled to stop at around 1.45pm in via Foro Boario in Lugo and at around 2.30pm in piazza Foresti in Conselice.
