The association Abio Reggio Calabria OdV is a consolidated reality present daily within the Pediatrics department Great Metropolitan Hospital, to always be close to children and parents. ABIO was founded to promote the humanization of the hospital and minimize the potential risk of trauma that each hospitalization presents. The volunteer collaborates with the various figures working in the hospital to implement, each in their own role, a strategy of active promotion of the well-being of the child and his family.
Discreet and silent, but always available to welcome, play and entertain. The ABIO volunteers bring joy and smiles and with the playful activity among the children hospitalized, they create a bit of normality and light-heartedness in what, at times, are also long hospitalizations.
ABIO volunteering is a precious help and indispensable support for children, adolescents and family members on which more than 200 pediatric departments throughout Italy can already count.
However, this is an activity that cannot be carried out without adequate preparation: to strengthen and expand the service in the department, a training course has been organized for all those who wish to provide useful help to children and adolescents in hospital.
To illustrate the methods and contents of the new “Basic Training Course” the association will hold a Information meeting, Tuesday 4 June, at the “A. Spinelli” – GOM. On that occasion, in addition to all the information necessary for those wishing to become part of the operational group, the activities of the association will also be illustrated, which has been operating since 2012 and is close to the children hospitalized in the pediatrics department of the Reggio hospital.
The information meeting is an essential moment to understand the structure, purposes and activities of the association.
Furthermore, the requirements necessary to become a volunteer and how to carry out the course will be explained. You must be between 18 and 69 years old.
