An event that brings together sport, tourism, historical re-enactment, food and wine with a single glue: the passion for two wheels and physical activity combined with the desire to learn. «It is not a race, but a sort of walk through the history of our territory dotted with monuments of extraordinary beauty», explained the president of Asd-Veloclub Caserta, Maria Grazia Ammiratiyesterday during the press conference to present the event, hosted in Belvedere of San Leucio which will be one of the stages of the event.
«Our aim is not in fact competitive, but is that of knowledge and the pleasure of living and appreciating ours naturalistic riches, architectural And landscaping. So, he pedals, of course, but without rushing, we look around, we stop, we chat.” And it’s not just the stages that are historic, but also the style of the initiative: «”Dated” bicycles can participate, i.e. those that date back to the last century and were built up until 1987. But not only that – he says Arturo Bernardoone of the creators of the project and vice president of ASD – even the clothing we use is that of the time, with wool t-shirts and shorts.”
A style that is well summarized in the posters and posters with the image “vintage“, created by the architect and appreciated graphic designer from Caserta, Giancarlo Covinoas underlined by the culture councilor of the Municipality of Caserta, Enzo Battarra, during his greeting speech. In short, a dive into the past to appreciate the present and promote a new way of tourism. Thus, the Epica Vanvitelliana, which is only in its second edition, has grown in membership, in the attention of professionals and in the consideration of enthusiasts. In fact, membership is arriving not only from neighboring regions, but from all over Italy. An initiative promoted by a group of bicycle lovers who have grown in number and commitment. «The increase has been favored by the participation of a large number of women: currently there are twelve members of our association, but new requests to join are already arriving», underlines Maria Grazia Ammirati. A very respectable and very significant result, especially in the year in which we remember the eightieth anniversary of the participation of a woman, Alfonsina Strada, in the Giro d’Italia. «The Vanvitellian Epic is, moreover, one of the four historic cilos that take place in Campania: the others are the Aglianica, the Vulcanica and the Maleventum, which, as can be guessed from their names, have a territorial characterization and approach» , he added Bernardo.
The Epic route is divided into two distances: the first of 50 kilometers and the second of 90. The departure is scheduled for 8.30 from the square Bishopric of Casertavecchiathe original nucleus of the city, from here we will proceed along the streets of centertowards the first and most important monument of the UNESCO site, namely the Vanvitellian Palacefrom there you will go up, passing through Mazzini streetto the second, the Belvedere of San Leucio, here there will be a first refreshment point, organized by the Pro Loco of San Leucio, with local products. So, moving on Vaccheria and the pheasantry of Monteverna plainwe will arrive at Damn, where another refreshment point will be equipped by the local Pro Loco. From here, those who have chosen the shortest route will go back and be able to stop at the Vaccheria where they will find the Pro loco Vaccheria, which will offer other typical products. Those who have opted for the entire route will continue through the Caiatina hills towards Loving And Sant’Agata de’ Goti, where you will find another space to refresh yourself with the goodness of the area. Subsequently, going along the Carolinian Aqueduct, and following the Via dell’Acqua you will arrive at Maddaloni where there will be another Pro loco, with the same offer of local products. Vanvitelli’s Epic will end in Casertavecchiaexactly from the same place from which it started.
