L’AQUILA – “Mercy and truth” was the slogan this year of the day dedicated to the figure of Barbara Micarelli from L’Aquila, organized by the association “With Barbara Micarelli, open arms to good”, together with the school – in its various classes – entrusted to the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Baby Jesus.
The moderator of the event – which took place in the “Family of Nazareth” room, in the parish area of San Pio Carla Gonnelli, President of the L’Aquila association, addressed the first word of greeting to those present, urging them to remember – full of industriousness – the figure and testimony of Barbara Micarelli.
A very brief introductory greeting was what Sister Lucia – General Councilor of the Congregation of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters – shared with those present in the room.
The first moment was the singing one: four young “musicians” – assisted by their teacher Giovanni – played for the assembly some notes taken from historical pieces of Italian and foreign music. This was followed by the recitation of poems by the primary school students, inspired by the testimony of Barbara Micarelli. Afterwards, the middle school students staged a small theatrical show”, inspired by a well-known contemporary Italian song and one of the current problems present in current society: that of work.
Don Dante Di Nardo curated a brief moment of theological and pastoral reflection on important themes such as: “poverty, in the truth of everyday life”, “the need to historicize experiences”, “the work of Micarelli during the establishment of the unborn child of the Italian State”, “mercy as an anthropological dimension, which has to do with our being”, “Barbara: spiritual mother of her sisters and of all the poor”. He stated, among other things: «This is what Barbara teaches us! Anthropology is at stake, even before Christian life.”
This year’s prize was awarded to Matilde Ricciotti, who is personally involved in the parish and diocesan Caritas service.
The entire school performed – including songs and music – for a final show, starting with contemporary Italian and foreign songs.
