He had managed to sell two jackets to an elderly man from Sermoneta, passing them off as real leather and also convincing him with a huge discount of 50%: from the initial thousand euros, the expense would have been 500 euros. Too bad those jackets didn’t have any leather in them and were worth a few tens of euros.
The man immediately filed a complaint with the police, who started investigations.
Through the municipal video surveillance system, the military managed to reconstruct the route of the fraudster’s car towards the ATM: the man had in fact convinced the elderly man to go to the bank branch to withdraw the requested sum.
By identifying the license plate it was possible to trace the name of the driver, a 53 year old from Campania who was not new to this type of scam, indeed he had a “thick” CV.
The police reported him for aggravated fraud, but were unable to recover the sum spent by the elderly man.
