SYRACUSE-GELA, MODICA-SICLI FINANCED – In Progress

FUNDS FOUND FOR LOT 9 WHICH WILL EXTEND THE HIGHWAY TO SICILI

Costs have increased, but the motorway will be built. That is, it will go up to Scicliextending the section already in operation from Syracuse to Modica, by 59.1 km, for further 11.2 km.

The forecast of 350 million for this extension was in fact blown after the update to the current price lists; It shouldn’t be too surprising that we’ve reached this point 600 millionor 250 more, given that the Modica-Scicli section project dates back to 2012. And only in recent years, as a result of the Ukrainian crisis, many of the materials that make up a civil work have also seen their costs double.

The necessary funds have been included by the Sicilian Region in the programming plan of Development and Cohesion Funds 2021-2027.

In the meantime, the expropriations have already started, which, as stated on the ragusaoggi.it website, affect 21 parcels in the Modica area and 362 in the Scicli area. There will be no demolitions except to a minimal extent, given that these are essentially agricultural areas. The executive project is nearing completion, and once approved it will be possible to proceed with the tendering of the works.

Our proposal for Siracusa-Gela

In a our recent video tutorial which was a great success (to date over 3,300 views!) we have dealt with the issue of the Siracusa-Gela motorway, proposing an alternative solution that will speed up its completion. It should be remembered, in fact, that the motorway in operation is, by extension, less than half of what was planned. The solution proposed by IN PROGRESS allows us to speed up times by better serving both the provincial capital, Ragusa, and Comiso airport, through a shorter route that partly retraces existing roads to be redeveloped into dual carriageways. The details in our Youtube channel “In Progress”, which we invite you all to view.
