Worker dead, Salemi plant seized: unions announce a sit-in in Trapani

In Salemi, the wind farm where the 33-year-old worker Giuseppe Carpinelli, originally from San Marco Cavoti (Benevento), died, was seized. The Trapani prosecutor’s office has ordered an autopsy. The worker’s body is located in Castelvetrano hospital.

The company was carrying out work at the Erg plant, in the area between Castelvetrano and Salemi. An expansion of the wind farm was planned. Erg’s project to repower its Sicilian wind farm in Castelvetrano-Salemi (Trapani) has been approved by the Ministry of Ecological Transition. It plans to triple power and quadruple production, almost halving the number of wind turbines. Ivpc Service srl, which has one of its offices in San Marco dei Cavoti, in the province of Benevento, the town of the deceased worker, carried out the subcontracting work.

Investigations by the Carabinieri of the provincial command of Trapani are underway to ascertain whether the safety regulations on the construction site were respected during the execution of the works.

Meanwhile, the unions announce a sit-in. «It is unacceptable – declare Liria Canzoneri, Leonardo La Piana and Tommaso Macaddino, general secretaries of CGIL CISL UIL Trapani – this continuous trail of serious accidents and deaths at work, we are tired and worried, we need strong and synergistic action between all the realities who have the responsibility to make workers return home safe and sound.” The unions announce a mobilization: tomorrow, Monday 13 May, at 11 a.m. there will be a sit in in front of the Prefecture of Trapani.
«Another young life is lost in an absurd way. This escalation of serious incidents is unacceptable, we will return to urge the Prefecture to convene an emergency table”, conclude the CGIL CISL UIL Trapani secretaries.
