Municipal elections in the province of Treviso: few party symbols, many civic ones

There are 55 municipalities in the Marche which in the electoral round of 8 and 9 June, in addition to voting for the European Parliament, will also choose new mayors and municipal councils. Yesterday at noon the deadline for submitting the candidate lists expired. On Saturday 8 June the polling stations will be open from 2pm to 10pm, Sunday 9 June from 7am to 11pm.

The counting of the ballots for the European elections will take place during the night between Sunday and Monday, while for the municipal elections the counting will take place from 2pm on Monday. In two municipalities with more than fifteen thousand inhabitants, Vittorio Veneto and Mogliano, there will be a second ballot if none of the mayoral candidates in the running obtain an absolute majority of votes in the first round. Not in Preganziol and Paese, where there are only two candidates and therefore the mayor will still be elected in the first round.

The possible runoff will take place on Sunday 23 June (polling stations open from 7am to 11pm) and Monday 24 June (from 7am to 3pm). In the diagram above we have shown the Municipalities of the Marche in which administrative elections are also held and the names of the outgoing mayors. Compared to the electoral round of five years ago, there is one municipality that is missing: it is that of Chiarano, where, after the commissionership, the vote was held in 2020, and therefore it will return to the polls next year.

And in the municipalities where there is only one candidate for mayor? In this case, all the councilor candidates on the list and the associated mayoral candidate are elected, provided that the number of voters is not less than 40% of the voters registered on the electoral lists. In short, in this case the quorum of 40 percent must be “defeated”. Otherwise, there is the arrival of the prefectural commissioner. The municipalities of Meduna di Livenza, Ormelle, Sarmede, Refrontolo and San Polo di Piave run this risk.

Not Vazzola, where next to the “official” list a flirtatious list has sprung up at the last minute to avoid the quorum risk. Disputes with appeals arriving in Pieve del Grappa (for the methods of collecting signatures for a list) and in Colle Umberto (for a disputed electoral symbol): the last word will be up to the electoral commission.

Compared to five years ago, the decline in party symbols and the increase in civic numbers is evident in the Marca, which can also be explained by the split between the Lega and FdI (with the Melonians presenting candidates antagonistic to the Northern League) and within the Lega itself . The game of the center-left is also complicated as in the Marca, only in very few cases does it present itself with the symbol of the most important party (the PD) and the second (the M5S) and which aims at least to confirm the number of outgoing administrations.
