Over 100 pairs of Il Tirreno sunglasses stolen

LIVORNO. New theft in the city’s shops. The “Eyespace” optical center in Via dei Lanzi, on the corner with Piazza Benamozegh and a few steps from the synagogue, was targeted at exactly 3.39 am on the night between Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May. This is the second raid in a few weeks in this specific commercial area, after the attack by Occhiali24.it in Borgo Cappuccini.

According to an initial inventory, at least 110 pairs of sunglasses are missing, resulting in thousands of euros of damage. The thieves, after having pierced the window which was then knocked down by the firefighters because it was unsafe, also took away the cash register, with around 100 euros inside. Enormous damage to the company led by the entrepreneur Andrea Baldassari: «I was woken up in the middle of the night by the alarm on my mobile phone – he says – then the security guards from Vesuvio 2 called me. I hope that from the cameras in the area we can trace the criminals».

On site, in addition to the security guards, the police and firefighters, who made the entrance safe by breaking down the glass window. Which will clearly have to be installed from scratch. «I think it could be a theft on commission – continues the owner of the business – because, at least from what we have learned at the moment, they only stole sunglasses. In short, they focused only on those, leaving everything else alone. For us it is the first time this has happened, we have never suffered any theft.”

According to Baldassari, more checks are needed at night in the area: «A bit throughout Livorno, not only here and certainly not only in our city and throughout Italy – he concludes – because we need to prevent episodes of this type. I repeat: I hope for surveillance systems in the area. We are near the synagogue and the cameras should not be missing. We hope to be able to trace those responsible.”
